From Self Glory to His Glory: The Call to Sacrifice

Dear Glory Carrier,

In today’s world hearing about sacrifice is not very pleasant. We live in an environment that is completely obsessed with receiving, receiving, and receiving. Companies constantly tempt us with free trials and free vouchers. When you are deciding on a subscription, you naturally want the one where you can get the maximum output while giving the absolute least input. The modern mindset is always about maximizing the biggest profit with the minimal amount of effort.

Trying to apply that transactional logic in the Kingdom of God becomes difficult. God is not a vending machine where we put a little something in just to get what we want out. What God asks for is not a comfortable transaction. What God desires is a living sacrifice.

We often speak about wanting to burn for God, but if you look at a real fireplace, the wood is what keeps it alive. There is simply no fire if there is no material available to be consumed. You might think of logs or oil being burned away. This forces us to ask a deep question: What are we actually giving to the Lord that we are willing to let be completely consumed? What are we truly laying down on His altar?

Leviticus 6:12 “The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and he shall arrange the burnt offering on it.”

True worship and offering our lives to God goes far deeper than just counting the hours we spend reading the Word or singing songs unto Him in a church service. It is about your entire life. When you truly realize this, it can be overwhelming, and you might look at your actions and feel like you are doing so much wrong.

Look at an average day, for example. If you were to count the things you did simply for your own pleasure versus what you did truly for Him, the contrast might be big. This perspective is not meant to bring shame or to make you live under legalism, but it is meant to give you a clar reality check. It reveals just how much of our day is ultimately about us rather than the One we call Lord.

Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

Scripture reminds us to let our love for God rule our lives. Yet, so often we say, “Lord, Lord,” but in reality, we act as our own master. We make our own independent decisions and choose to please ourselves rather than the Father. This shows up in the way we interact with the people around us, how we treat our own bodies, how we manage our finances, how we manage our time and also what specific emotions we allow to dictate our day.

When you break it down, it reveals a truth: a deep area of yieldedness is still missing. How devoted are we really? How much of our thoughts, our secret desires, and our entire inner life is genuinely surrendered to Him?

This brings us right to the core purpose of this blog, Journey to Glory. We must examine how much of our day is spent chasing our own personal glory versus living for His divine glory.

The life God gives us is not our own to possess. We are living in a time that is completely oversaturated with self. Everything is designed to focus on the individual. We constantly hear messages about how to become better, how to achieve more, how to market ourselves, and how to gain more followers and visibility. While some of these practical strategies might be useful tools, we must honestly evaluate the underlying motive behind them. Is the goal the ultimate glorification of myself, or is it to point everything back to the only Person who actually deserves the praise?

Jesus Christ, the Hope of Glory within us can only shine through a yield vessel. As we step away from the culture of instant gratification and lean into total devotion, the presence of Christ in us shall finally be revealed to the world.
